Be Your Own Harvard Referencing Tool: Tricks to Nail That Bibliography

This is a kind of citation that allows you to refer to somebody else’s quotes and ideas that are already published somewhere. Students with the Harvard referencing style can cite anybody whose ideas are already brought out somewhere to strengthen the ideas and observation of the student. In a way the convention of Intellectual property law is not also violate because in the bibliography sections their observations are mentioned along with their name and where it could be found. This particular harvard referencing style is applicable in some universities where the articles mostly deal with subjects of humanities, behavioural, natural and social sciences.

There are two parts of this referencing style where the first part is in-text citation while the next part is providing a harvard reference list at the end of the paper. In the entire paper wherever you have taken the idea from somebody you have to refer to that persona along with his name, the very year of publication and everything should be put inside a bracket. The latter part which is providing the paper with the reference list is where all the sources have to be mentioned whichever have been cited in the entire work.

Now the reference list is arranged alphabetically so that the reader can easily find out the in-text citations. Each entry of the citation should have connecting parenthetical citation so that the reader conveniently can go back to the bibliography to understand what source it is being referred to. This is like a parent term for the referencing style because it uses the name of the author and the date of publication only while citing the reference. This way the writing becomes very economical and less words are wasted therefore the writing becomes concise and compact.

Every time you are quoting or paraphrasing the idea of any person other than you, must be cited in the paper along with source. Whatever the idea might be it has to be referred because otherwise that will be granted as plagiarism and no universities accept plagiarized essays. Therefore students have to be very careful while planning his paper. No external idea cannot be present inside the paper without being cited properly along with the list at the end of the paper.

Example: the reference or the bibliography looks like last name followed by the first name with initials and the names are connected with “and” which ends with the year of publication the name of the book is in italics and the name of the publisher separated with a “full stop”. Joyce, J., 1914. The Portrait of the Artist As A Young Man. Huesbsch New York.

The citation is very easy and it is required in assignments in this style because only the name of the author has to be given and the date of publication has to be added after giving the name. This process of citation is easy to remember therefore it is commonly preferred by many universities.
